Electrochemical method ensures fast, inexpensive end
Scientists from the University of Rostock has managed to demonstrate in a real sample corn flour less than 0.9 percent of genetically modified maize MON810 using biosensors. Thus, this important threshold for food uses are first monitored with a fast electrochemical process.

“This new rapid method we have achieved an important breakthrough,” the head of the research group said Gerd-Uwe Flechsig by the Institute for Chemistry. “The next challenge for us will be to optimize the high speed, the detection limit of the method to detect even minute amounts of genetically modified maize,” added the scientist involved in the project Maren mix.

Faster and less expensive detection

In the group of Flechsig is worked for years in the electrochemical DNA analysis. One of the objectives is to develop a practical rapid and inexpensive detection of genetically modified plants. Bonn (epo.de). – The global food supply faces increasing competition: are intensified agro-fuels and feed for meat production mainly for export. This food is scarce and expensive. “The poor can not pay for rising prices does not have enough grain to be filled.
